Huanchaco, just what I needed!

HuanchacoLovin´ it! Huanchaco is just what the doctor ordered. Yesterday, I woke up, went running along the beach and leisurely drank some coffee, okay, a lot of coffee. It was great to be agenda free. We drank coffee, enjoyed some eggs, dropped off the laundry (I hadn´t done laundry since Columbia, ew) and relaxed some more. What more can you ask for in a day.

After a leisurely stroll down the beach we stopped and watched the surfers and the fishermen. The boats they use are made out of bunched reeds with flat bottoms. It almost looks like they are surfing the waves while sitting down.Huanchaco And the paddle, split bamboo poll. Doesn´t seem like the best of paddles, but it apparently works well enough. Completely mezmorized by the movement, we just sat on the ledge and watched, soaking in the warm sun.

Todd skipped breakfast so eventually we were on the hunt for some food, seafood specifically. The night before we enjoyed a beautiful platter of ceviche. It included squid, crab, shrimp, white fish, and a couple other types of seafood. The ceviche was a perfectly blended combination of slight spice and lime juice. Fresh heaven! HuanchacoTodd was excited for round 2 ceviche, but at the last minute he decided to mix it up and order crab a la fried egg and spice stuff on the side. It was basically a deconstructed crab cake. And delicious. 4 whole crabs, $4.00, can´t beat that price. Here, they use the sol, which I think is about $1 = 2.8sol. Cheaper then Ecuador! We sat on the balcony and watched Todd meticulously enjoy each and every piece of crab.

After lunch, we hunted for a bookstore with no luck. I guess people here don´t read. Luckily, Rachel, our bus buddy from Ecuador, loaned me a book until here departure tomorrow. Not going to finish The Duchess, but its a biography, so at least I know the ending; she dies.

So I didn´t think the day could get any better, but it did. Todd found a bar that had live reggae music at 11pm. Live music, 3sol cover, and reggae, awesome. Sitting under a moon bow with the faint sound of the ocean waves crashing in the background, bundled up in scarfs and hats, we enjoyed some beers before the show started. Muy Tranquilo! I haven´t been dancing in a while, let alone to some good reggae, so I was stoked.

The band started about 2hrs late, but it was worth it, brass and all. We danced, oh, did we dance! It was excellent. The music was excellent and the ground was lovin it. We ended up buying the band a drink after the show. They wanted to practice their English, so we sat around and talked until the early morning. Super nice guys.

Because Rahel went to bed before us, we were key less. Meaning, 5 or 6am, no key to the main hostel door, only a non helpful security guard standing outside. I used the yelling technique, which eventually woke up someone who kindly opened the door for us. I am sure once we were in the room, we were super loud while thinking we were quite as mice. Oh, well.

HuanchacoToday, my legs are tired, my head a tad foggy, and my eyes slightly droopy from fatigue, but my mindset, fabulous! What a day, what a night! I loved it all. Those are the days that really make me smile.

Today, I am a pile of nothing, but I don´t care. No agenda again! Huanchaco, just what I needed.
